The free event will feature a multilingual reading of Frederick Douglass' famed 1852 speech, What to the Slave is Your Fourth of July? with portions presented in Wampanoag, K’iche’, Portuguese and English, highlighting the enduring resonance of Douglass’ words within our local communities.

The college’s event is generously supported by a grant from , which organizes and funds public events where communities gather to read and discuss abolitionist Frederick Douglass’ work and influence. °ëµºÌåÓý selected its New Bedford campus to host this event given the significant role that the city played in shaping Douglass’ early activism.
